ESSENCE NAMES TOP FASHIONABLE THICKETTES!
Essence Magazine names their top fashionable thickettes and here they are in no particular order.

Oprah Winfrey
The media mogul’s weight has fluctuated more times than we can count over the past two decades, but through it all she has always remained camera-ready. Her sophisticated image is definitely part of her star appeal.
Angie Stone
A true soul singer to the core, Angie keeps it real and we adore her for it. We love how this silky cream top plays up her beautiful mocha skin.
Jennifer Hudson
The Chi-town powerhouse took the entertainment world by storm after her Oscar-winning performance in “Dreamgirls” in 2006. Even fashion icon Andre Leon Talley has lent his stylish hand to the voluptuous beauty. In October 2008, Hudson revealed to ESSENCE, “I used to hate going to stores, trying on clothes. Girl, now I love me some clothes!”
Chrisette Michele
After providing sweet vocals for hip-hop royalty like Nas and Jay-Z, Michele has proven she will make her mark on the R&B world. The Long Island, New York, native told ESSENCE in October, “I need to flatter my hourglass shape. On curvy girls, the clothes need to fit.”
Jazmine Sullivan
This brickhouse from Philly might be a newbie on the music scene, but she has an unforgettable voice and a shapely silhouette to match. “I’m not a size 0,” she says in the October issue of ESSENCE, “I celebrate my curves, and I think that makes everyone else all right with them too.”
Jordin Sparks
This “American Idol” alum, chart-topping vocalist and burgeoning model keeps her look picture-perfect in body-conscious fashions.
Mo’Nique
An ESSENCE fave, this fly Baltimore native has graced our cover five times and counting. Her unapologetic openness about her weight (in 2004 she penned the hilarious “Skinny Women Are Evil”) has made her an inspiration to women who once felt pressured to be a size 2.
Niecy Nash
She’s one of our favorite reasons for watching the Style channel, as the frank but loving host of “Clean House.” Her signature flower in the hair makes her fashion sense undeniably fly.
Queen Latifah
Proving that ladies are always first, this New Jersey-bred raptress-turned-actress always turns it out on the red carpet. In 2006, the Grammy winner collaborated with beauty giant CoverGirl to launch the Queen collection of cosmetics, providing more makeup options for women of color.
Raven-Symone
We’ve been in love with this actress-turned-entrepreneur ever since she first captured our hearts as the precocious toddler on “The Cosby Show.” Unlike some other young women her age, she always keeps it classy on the red carpet.
Sherri Shepherd
She keeps TV audiences chuckling on two Emmy-winning shows–chatting it up on “The View” or clowning on the hit sitcom “30 Rock.” Yet her body-conscious style is no laughing matter.
Toccara
“America’s Next Top Model” was never the same after Toccara Jones made her debut on the show. The Ohio native might not have won the reality series that season, but she has made tremendous strides for plus-size models and even appeared in the now-infamous all-Black Vogue Italia earlier this year.

Jill Scott
Quickly becoming a true renaissance woman, Scott conquered music, then acting, and earlier this year she added fashion designer to her résumé. The Grammy winner collaborated with retailer Ashley Stewart to launch the Butterfly Bra, an undergarment specifically created for top-heavy women.

ALSO FOR THE THICKETTES WHO THINK THERE AREN’T ANY MEN OUT THERE WHO LOVE THICKSATIONAL WOMEN. HMMMMM YOU BETTER THINK AGAIN! ESSENCE INTERVIEWED SOME MEN AND THIS IS WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY ABOUT US.
”If you look good, you look good. If Jennifer Hudson walked by right now, I would be all over her. I’ve met women who are plus-size, and they are fine just because of the way they carry themselves.”
-Khalid S., 27, IT consultant
“I like ladies who are thick, shapely, well-endowed-all of that. I cannot see myself dating a woman who’s small and skinny, shaped like the Eurocentric model. Plus-size women are a visual aesthetic.”
-Khari S., 41, ? school administrator
“Thicker ladies are aware of their size and, depending on their age, have learned to embrace it. They also know what they want. Being a slim guy, I’ve found that bigger women like skinny men.”
-Chris C., 29, songwriter
“Big girls are often the aggressor, quick to cater to a man’s needs, and willing? to provide things that other girls may frown upon.”
-Calvin G., 32, legal assistant
“What I find different about plus-size ladies is how sexy, soulful and sensuous they are, like Mo’Nique or Jill Scott. When I’ve dated heavier women, they have been truly understanding, open-minded, and love to dance and do whatever it takes to maintain a healthy relationship with minimal drama.”
-Erik M., 42, actor
Uh Huh! Check out the page because some of the brothas who gave their opinions are FINE! Thickettes its our time!

ANGIE GETS HER SHINE!
Miss Angie is NOT playing games in 08! She is working on her own book, has a jean and shirt deal with Ashley Stewart and just shot a movie in the ATL!
“I just shot a movie called ‘Pastor Brown’ [in Atlanta], and am about to do another one with my friend Idris Elba and Tasha Smith. TV’s coming along too; I’m doing some work on ‘Lincoln Heights’. And of course [her latest CD] ‘The Art of Love & War’ is still in stores, doing great. But at some point, yeah, I’m going to have to find some time to get back in the lab soon, and work on some new material. Focus on music again.” {Source: Peach Buzz}

ANGIE SPEAKS THE TRUTH!
Here’s what Angie has to say about being dark skinned (I prefer to say chocolate) in the entertainment industry.
“Well, you know it goes back to the very beginning. If you were light skinned you were in, if you were dark skinned you were out. It very well works that way in the industry. You see very [few] dark skinned people on top of the game. Most of the superstars are very fair or mullatto people. You can check your stats. It works that way in the film world too. I have lost almost every single opportunity to star in a film to Macy Gray or Jill Scott because they’re light and I’m dark. I’ve been told so many times that it’s a certain look that they’re looking for. So you can’t even use weight anymore. You can’t use age because everybody’s over 35 that’s running around doing it. It comes down to what is more appealing. I’m only good for the pro political stuff that will afford all of my people from the hood to vote for the right president - or to support whatever because I’m more on their level, so to speak. So to me it hasn’t changed much. Slavery has just taken on a whole new different direction but it’s the same process.” {Source}
Preach Angie! This is definitely an issue in the industry. However I do not think Jill and Macy are considered “light” but I guess it depends on your views. Also, I would like to see Angie acting skills before I assume that being a chocolate woman is the only reason why she is not being picked for certain roles. Now don’t get me wrong I understand where she is coming from, but if she can’t act then Angie it’s not just the color of your skin! I don’t know about you but if Angie auditioned for “Why Did I Get Married” then Angie I’M SORRY BUT JILL OWNED THAT ROLE! SHE WAS THICKSATIONAL IN THAT MOVIE! BUT I STILL LOVE YA ANGIE KEEP YOUR HEAD UP THICKETTE AND DON’T GIVE UP!
