Mo’Nique has a new movie coming out called “Push” which also stars thickette Sherri Shepherd, Paula Patton, Leeny Kravitz and Mariah Carey.

“Push” is about a African American thickette named Clareece “Precious” Jones and Mo’Nique plays the Clareece’s mother.

Verbally and sexually abused by her family, her troubles lead to problems in school. Precious, as she is known, has no friends, no money, two kids (from her father), and she’s illiterate. After being accepted into an alternative school where a teacher (played by Patton) helps her find an alternative path in her life. Along her journey, she comes across a concerned social worker (played by Carey) and a nurse (played by Kravitz) who shows her much kindness.

In a recent ‘Essence’ magazine interview, Mo’Nique revealed how her very own molestation inspired her performance. “My brother was a monster to me,” she said, “When Lee [Daniels] would say ‘Action,’ I became my brother.”

Patton, who’s making a name for herself as one of Black Hollywood’s rising stars, talked candidly and in-depth about her role during a recent interview.

“I play the schoolteacher, Ms. Rain. The story revolves around a young girl that grew up in Harlem that has faced unimaginable abuse and she is severely overweight and has a second child coming on the way; and the world has forgotten her. She’s been left behind. Somehow she got through the eighth grade and still doesn’t know how to read. She’s befriended by this schoolteacher and together we forge a friendship.”

“I push her to keep her will to live and tell her that she can be the best that she can be, and she can do more than anyone thought she can do,” she continued. “Although she can’t read right now, she can go to college. She then pushes me because at one point I was in a sad case with my family because I’m a lesbian and my mom has rejected me. The love that I get from her is replacing that from my mother. It’s a really beautiful friendship.”

RUMOR HAS IT THAT BARBARA IS READY TO KICK SOMEBODY OFF OF THE SHOW ONCE AGAIN AND IT IS THICKETTE SHERRI SHEPHERD. ACCORDING TO CELEBITCHY, BARBARA IS UPSET ABOUT AN INTERVIEW THAT SHERRI DID WITH A CHRISTIAN WOMAN MAGAZINE WHERE SHERRI STATED THAT SHE HOPED BARBARA COULD GET SAVED BY A TELEVANGELIST.

SHERRI APOLOGIZED ON THE SHOW SAYING THAT IT WAS JUST A JOKE AND HER QUOTES WERE TAKEN OUT OF CONTEXT.

DO YOU THINK THAT WAS GOOD ENOUGH FOR BARBARA? HELL NO!

Sherri reveals in the new issue of Precious Times (Christian Magazine) about her past struggles before she became a devoted Christian.

“My sister was heavy into drugs, and we would have to go and get her from crack houses,” Shepherd, 41, says.

At the time, the stand-up comic — then a Jehovah’s Witness – was “in a very physically abusive relationship,” she said. “I was sleeping with a lot of guys and had more abortions than I would like to count.”

She said her self-esteem became so low, “I felt if someone killed me, it wouldn’t even make a difference.”

But after converting to Christianity, she said, “God showed me that it would make a difference.”

(Shepherd has also said she relied on her faith to get through her split with husband Jeff Tarpley, father of their 3-year-old son. During their seven-year marriage, Tarpley cheated on her and got another woman pregnant.)

Still, Shepherd admitted it is tough talking religion on the popular ABC chat-fest. (She received criticism after she once remarked that ancient Greeks persecuted Christians, even though Christ hadn’t been born yet.)

“Oh, sometimes I say, ‘Lord, Juanita Bynum or Joyce Meyer would be so good at this table. They could lay hands on Barbara Walters and get her saved,’” she said.

“I ask the Lord, ‘Why am I here?’” Shepherd added. “I have to trust God when He says, ‘Because I said so.’” {Source}

I’m happy that Sherri decided to speak about her past. In a world that expects celebrities to be perfect, it’s good to see that she has chosen to tell the world where she use to be and how it is possible to get to where she is at today if you have faith.
