A THICKSATIONAL STEEL MAGNOLIAS REMAKE
Can you imagine, Queen Latifah, Jill Scott and Phylicia Rashad on the big screen together?
Well guess what it is happening! Sony Pictures has signed our thickettes on for the “Steel Magnolias” Remake.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television, Steel Magnolias chronicles the lives and friendship of six women in Louisiana: M’Lynn (Queen Latifah), Ouiser (Woodard), Clairee (Phylicia Rashad), Truvy (Scott), Annelle (Oduye) and Shelby (Condola Rashad). Supporting each other through their triumphs and tragedies, they congregate at Truvy’s beauty shop to ponder the mysteries of life and death, husbands and children — and hair and nails — all the important topics that bring women together. In the 1989 movie, the roles were played by Sally Field (M’Lynn), Dolly Parton (Truvy), Shirley MacLaine (Ouiser), Darryl Hannah (Annelle), Olympia Dukakis (Clairee), and Julia Roberts (Shelby). The remake, which is slated to begin production next month in Atlanta for a debut later this year, will be executive produced by Craig Zadan, Neil Meron, Latifah, her producing partner Shakim Compere and Shelby Stone. OCTAVIA SPENCER IS NOT “HEALTHY”
We know that Octavia is going to win an Oscar and we are so happy for her. I don’t know if you have notice but since Octavia has been receiving a buzz around “The Help” she has lost weight (are you surprise?). Well yesterday at the SAG Awards she decided to give her opinion on being overweight.
Check this out!
Octavia Spencer couldn’t be on a better career path – but The Help star is not without some concerns about herself.
“I am not healthy at this weight,” Spencer, 39, said backstage at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, where she won a best supporting actress trophy.
“Any time you have too much around the middle, then there is a problem. [And] when you reach a certain weight, you are less valuable.”
But Spencer, who also won a Golden Globe, says that Hollywood should be more accepting of actresses of different sizes, including those who are extra thin.
Blaming “society” for the stigmas attached to looks, Spencer adds, “I feel for the overly thin women as much as I do for the overweight women. It … has to change.”
Still, to the thin actresses, she jokes that she has a message.
“If more women ate, they would be a lot happier,” she says. “Let me tell you, I am a lot grumpier when I don’t eat.” (Source)

Ok thickettes, I am all for being healthy. I always have my servings of fruit and veggies everyday and some may believe it or not but not all plus size women constantly make bad food choices. I don’t know if I am being a little sensitive today, but to state that having too much around the middle means you have a problem doesn’t sit well with me. I mean have you ever heard Queen Latifah, Jill Scott or Nikki Blonsky say that? NO! Everybody wants to say being plus size is not healthy, well I have skinny friends who are not healthy. I recently went hiking with my friend who is a size 4 and she couldn’t hang. I ended up finishing the hike by myself! It’s unfortunate that society has considered bigger means unhealthy.
I commend Octavia for stating that Hollywood should be more accepting of actresses of different sizes, HOWEVER I feel she also stated she and like so many others are going to conform to what Hollywood wants to stay “valuable”. This mentality is working my last nerve. Can we get more women who want to become more “healthy” because of them and NOT because of the peer pressure. Octavia is still valuable and will be more valuable to Hollywood when she wins an Oscar but I wish her and more women in the industry would say to Hollywood… ACCEPT ME AS I AM AND LOOK AT THE TALENT BEFORE THE WEIGHT. What do you think Thickettes?

THICKSATIONAL GOLDEN GLOBES
We are headed to the Oscars again Thickettes! A thicksational clap to Octavia Spencer. She took home a Golden Globe last night!
After seeing “The Help” I KNEW she was going to win.
And she looked THICKSATIONAL in her dress!
Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids) was there as well. I will give her look a THICKSATIONAL B-. Her stylist could have done more with her curves. Melissa dropped a few tears when Octavia won her award. Thickettes have to stick together!
THE QUEEN!
Of course she looked like royalty last night! THICKSATION A+++ to you HONEY you looked FAB!
But one thickette stole the show!
I absolutely LOVED this dress on Amber. The red popped and it showed all of her curves. Oh and her boobs stayed in place. Gotta love that when you are a thickette wearing a strapless dress! Ha!

MOVIE REVIEW: JUST WRIGHT
Just Wright is a movie about thickette Leslie Wright (Queen Latifah) who has a great career and a supportive family but can’t seem to find love.
She meets Scott McKnight (Sexy, Delicious Rapper Common) and becomes his Physical Therapist. Leslie and Common begin to have feelings towards each other, but will they end up being together???
Of course I am not going to tell you the ending…but I will say Just Wright is cute and refreshing.
It’s refreshing to see a movie that doesn’t have a lot of profanity and it’s a cute story.
Great Movie? No. The movie was very predictable. However Queen Latifah never disappoints, her acting was phenomenal.
Now Common wasn’t a bad actor but he wasn’t great. That’s ok because his sexy smile, beautiful eyes and nice body makes up for it.
All in all, the movie is a cute romantic comedy and I give it a C+.
There is still something missing from the movie. The chemistry between Wright and McKnight did not seem genuine and the basketball players in the movie were annoying me with their bad acting.
Still support the movie but don’t expect fireworks.

MOVIE REVIEW: PRECIOUS
Before watching “Precious” on Friday, I knew I was going to have a long detailed review and looking at the previews, I thought “Precious” was going to be this generation’s “The Color Purple”.
I WAS WRONG!
After the long anticipated release of this movie, I left the movie theaters saying “Precious” was just ok.
“Precious” will give you a harsh reality on how some kids are being treated by their parents and community however, the constant tears and shock value that I thought I would have was not there.  Now, the acting wasn’t the problem. The casting for this movie was great and everybody played their characters well. Mo’Nique was phenomenal and was a true villain. There is NO reason why she shouldn’t receive an Oscar Nod for this movie. Gabby was great as well and she is a natural on the screen.
So as I left the theater with a “Dear in headlights” stare, I kept asking myself where did this movie go wrong? Usually a great story and great actors equals a great movie. Then all of a sudden it hit me! LEE DANIELS! If you have seen “Monster’s Ball” you will understand why. After watching “Monster’s Ball” I left the movie theater with the same “WTF Confused” look on my face.
Daniels never completes his movies (at least the two I’ve seen so far). The ending of his work always leaves me not wanting more but wanting my money back! Now in my opinion, “Precious” wasn’t as bad as “Monster’s Ball” and maybe because I could relate to the “Precious” story, but to have so much pain and drama in a story I expected a full story, more details and yes a better ending.
I have nothing else to say about “Precious” my grade for the movie was a B-. It’s still a movie that everybody should see but don’t expect tears and a standing ovation.

GAB @ THE CANNES!
Star of “Precious” Gabourey was at the Cannes Film Festival last week.

Aww she looks pretty.
Work it thickette!

Gab with Paula and MC (where is Mo?)

Gab looked beautiful in this dress. Whoever her stylist was that night deserves a CLAP!
FYI: The movie named changed from “Push” to “Precious” because they didn’t want to be confused with Dakota’s Fanning movie “Push”. Thanks for the info Keely!
