GEORGIA PSA WILL DO MORE HARM

Someone asked me this weekend if I saw Georgia’s PSA for overweight children. I only watch TV to see certain shows and the news, so I never saw the campaign. I went to Youtube to see if I could find the commercials and I couldn’t believe what I saw. First of all let’s start off by looking at the picture.

Are they serious? The quotes they have at the bottom of the page are IGNORANT. Does Georgia think harsh comments will make thick kids feel better? I have never seen a child be encouraged to eat right by belittling them. When will people learn! You have to motivate by telling people what they do right before you tell them what they need to IMPROVE. I am not promoting bad eating habits but this is showing kids they are wrong for being thick, they are not good people or should be picked on because they are thick. Also this is giving the bullies more ammunition to pick on them.

Check out the videos.

NOW check this out!

Star Jones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????? In society they would still consider you “obese” and to say you had to be scared straight to understand you had to lose weight is NOT the same way to reach a child. Children are very vulnerable, sensitive and these campaigns can do the opposite. It can lower their self esteem even more, AND they may just sneak around and still eat the food they want to eat, OR they may not want to eat at all which can lead to anorexia or bulimia! And to say solving obesity solves health care problems…really? So obesity solves millions of Americans who don’t have insurance? Does it solve HIV, Cancer, drug additions? Who knew obesity was the focus of ALL health care problems. They are full of it and so are these bullsh*t campaigns. I am sure most kids see the commercial, flip the channel and don’t think twice about it.

What do you think?

  1. As a thicksational woman myself, I have a daughter that is a little on the large size too but instead of telling her she’s fat or over weight her father and I encourage her to just move. We walk as a family we play video games that require us to be the controller and promote movement. These ads that they have out are not only cruel, mean spirited but just down right evil. God did not create all people to be a size 2 and if the bone heads that made these ads would look a little closer, most children that are over weight grow up to average sized to slim adults. My husband and I tell our daughter everyday that no matter what her size she is beautiful. The ads are tasteless and are only going to add yet another problem for children it’s called depression.
