A loyal reader of thicksational.com sent this to me and here’s what she has to say about this beautiful picture. Please take the time to read this thickettes trust me it’s worth it.
I received the attached photo with the question, “A penny for your thoughts?” Well, the photo says so much to me. It shows the power of a mother even in death, even in life. It displays of a determined woman from the road of grief to the highways of joy. Both of these women are educated women of faith, strength and virtue. They remind me that you can raise a family, be a lady, and blossom fully in purpose. This picture suggests that in times of trouble you do not have to be or become a wilted flower. And, in times of fight you do not have to flinch. There is gentility to these women but a valor speaks from their aura. They remind me that beside (not behind) every great man is a great woman. And, as they sit on a church pew I am reminded of the importance of family and faith and how the two go together.
My life will never be the same. No history book will ever be the same. Peter Storey recently sent out a letter that said, “If Obama is announced as your President-elect, there will be great rejoicing all around the globe. We will see new hope of the might of the United States being bent to works of justice and compassion and cooperation. We will see new possibilities for the poor of the earth: for the first time, Americans will have elected someone who knows what it is like to be on the outside as well as in the circle, who has actually worked among the poor, who has lived, however briefly, outside the American bubble, and who has the blood of the world’s most oppressed continent in his veins. Everyone of these factors speak of change.”
Well, yesterday he was announced the President-Elect. And, today, we are rejoicing. Faith is the substance of things hoped and it is the evidence of things not seen. Yet, in this case it is evident by the very thing we have been so graciously allowed to witness. I love it when the Lord reveals himself in even the most non-spiritual place such as American politics. I bless God for his providence. I thank God for the content and the context of today’s revelation. 40 years after the death of Martin Luther King Jr. 40 years of wandering in the wilderness. 40 years of bleak obscurity without an agenda. And, now today we all have an agenda. And, it is has no color. Instead it has a voice…love, peace, unity and faith.
THANK YOU PRECIOUS FOR YOUR WORDS OF WISDOM!

Lady P
thanks for your thoughts on this photo it really helped me see this in another light. I remember early in ’08 when some black people said, I like Obama but I’m scarred for him if he get in there.
Then as the election grew close, either that fear wasnt vocalized as much, went away, or simply dwindeled.
Needless to say when I got these 2 pics in an email, my first thought was that someone was trying to be funny and imply danger to our president. Then again, Michelle’s picture didnt come up in the email it was only Corretta’s. So I decided not to forward that email because i didnt want to push that energy of my inital thought.
But thank you for expressing so well what the picture really represents. People pray everyday for the strength and protection of Obama. I do as well and more importantly I cherrish today and what is possible today and trust the Lord’s will be done.
